When this breaks down
Spectra is not “AI for portals”. It is what happens when the portal assumes a user who does not exist.
Blind or low-vision
The portal reads cleanly until a dynamic dropdown or modal appears. Then the flow breaks and they are stuck. If the phone line is closed, care is effectively unavailable.
Post-stroke or low-mobility
They can read the result or instruction, but cannot complete the clicks, acknowledgements, or form controls the portal demands to move forward.
Migrant family member
A daughter ends up translating and navigating an English-only patient portal for her mum because the system assumes literacy, dexterity, and confidence it does not actually have.
Hands-busy carer at bedside
They do not need an AI experience. They need one answer fast: what is the medication, when is the next dose, what did the clinician write.
